New wing under construction
Total Cost: $50,000
LOCATED IN KAPIRI MOSHE DISTRICT – A HOME FOR GIRLS WHICH
PROVIDES THEM ACCESS TO EDUCATION AND THE BARAKA LEARNING CENTRE.
World Housing’s Girls Safe House will transform the lives of Zambian girls by providing them safe housing which allows them to complete their education.
Many difficult and heartbreaking stories are told through World Housing projects. In Zambia, we see firsthand how the gift of a safe home can change a life as we learned about Lillian.
Lillian’s story mirrors the one she shares with 29 of her new housemates, along with millions of girls who live in Zambia where girls are not provided the opportunity to complete school and most end their education at around 12 years old. This in itself is inequitable and unfair, but it becomes unfathomable when their fate is sealed by being married off to older men at this young age, or worst forced into prostitution to survive.
A quote from our major donor, John Rider, Senior Vice President of Chicago Title Insurance Co. of Canada:
“Without this home, these girls and young women would not have the opportunity to realize their true potential. They would likely each become servants and farmworkers in their own home, until they were married off to much older men, where they would continue to be mostly servants, farmers and mothers for the rest of their lives. Now they will graduate with an education suitable to apply and enter university. They have an opportunity that even public school graduates rarely receive. Imagine that 25+ generations will have the same opportunity at this house.
Chicago Title Insurance Company of Canada supports World Housing’s mission to provide a home for everyone, and we are committed to using our business to connect what we do to help the most vulnerable people around the world to have safe shelter and a dignified life.”
– John Rider, Senior Vice President – Chicago Title Canada
